The Peruvian capital is a modern metropolis full of history, with some 10 million inhabitants, which is currently undergoing an exciting process of cultural and economic change.
DAY 2
Get ready to explore Lima’s old town, a Unesco World Heritage Site, which is filled with fascinating historic buildings. Start the tour with the Larco Museum, located in the traditional district of Pueblo Libre and housed in a beautifully restored viceregal mansion, which itself is built on top of a 7th-century pre-Columbian pyramid. The museum has a very complete pre-Hispanic collection of gold and silver objects, as well as pieces of erotic art. Next, head to the Casa Aliaga, a colonial mansion granted in 1535 by the conquistador Francisco Pizarro to one of his captains, Jerónimo de Aliaga. This is the only house of the period that still belongs to the same family. Continue with a scenic tour of the colonial center. Visit the Plaza de Armas, where you can appreciate the grandiose architecture of the Spanish Empire. There you will find its magnificent Cathedral, built in the 16th century. Finish the tour by returning to your hotel.
DAY 3
Enjoy a comfortable transfer from your hotel to the Lima airport to take a flight to Cusco. One of our representatives will meet and greet you, and then you will transfer to your selected hotel in Cusco. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of this charming city, once the capital of the Inca Empire. The tour begins with a visit to the Convent of Santo Domingo, a large Renaissance-baroque complex, which was built over the Inca temple Coricancha. It was one of the most important temples dedicated to the cult of the sun and its foundations still stand out at the base of the convent. Ancient chronicles say that the temple was covered with gold leaf and filled with golden representations of nature. After visiting the Cathedral in the Plaza de Armas, head to the hills overlooking Cusco to visit the remains of the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, whose imposing walls offer a breathtaking panoramic view of Cusco? Visit the ruins of the temple and amphitheater of Qenqo, where it is believed that the Incas practiced rituals related to agriculture. Finally, visit Puca Pucara (red fortress in Quechua), an Inca military complex located on a prominent hill. You can still appreciate its dwellings, squares, baths, aqueducts, walls, and towers.
DAY 4
Your visit to Machu Picchu begins with an hour and a half train ride through spectacular Andean scenery to Aguas Calientes, departing from Ollanta station. From here, you will take a 25-minute bus ride to Machu Picchu, the ‘lost city of the Incas’. It is believed that the archaeological site was built around 1450 by the Inca Pachacutec as his vacation residence. However, a century later, the city was abandoned after the Spanish conquest, spared the destruction that came to other Inca settlements. Instead, the jungle slowly grew between its stone constructions and hid it, protecting it. During the guided tour, learn about the origins of this impressive citadel, presenting its most outstanding monuments such as the main square, the royal quarters, the temple of the three windows, the circular towers, the sacred clock, and the cemeteries. At the end of the tour, you will return by bus to Aguas Calientes, where you will enjoy a delicious lunch. You will have free time in the afternoon. Overnight in Aguas Calientes.
DAY 5
You can return to Machu Picchu optionally and visit any of the attractions that keep the citadel as the Intipunku (“Sun Gate”) a kind of checkpoint, which is crossed by the rays of the sun rises every day. You can climb Huayna Picchu (subject to availability of spaces), which means “Young Mountain”. The ascent takes approximately one hour. There you will find the “Temple of the Moon”, a complex of subway constructions probably destined for the use of the elite. Finally, you will visit the Inca Bridge, incredible stone construction that served as an entrance or exit of the citadel. In the afternoon you will be transferred to the Aguas Calientes train station to take the train back to Ollanta station, and finally, transfer to your hotel in Cusco.
DAY 6
About 100 km southeast of Cusco, lies one of the most beautiful works of nature: the Mountain of 7 Colors. This place, also known as the rainbow mountain, has an altitude of 5,200 meters above sea level. To start the tour, you are picked up from your hotel early in the morning and transferred to Cusipata, where the hike begins. The trail is surrounded by beautiful landscapes of the Andes and guarded by the majestic Ausangate Mountain, one of the most important mountains of Cusco, considered a sacred entity since Inca times. Once at the viewpoint of the 7 Colors Mountain, appreciate the surroundings from the top. After a few minutes, start descending to Cusipata, from where you are transferred back to your hotel.
