DAY 1

Arrive in the city of Lima and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, we will walk through the main streets, squares, and avenues of the city. We will start with a panoramic view of the district of Miraflores. We will start at the Parque del Amor, where we will observe the famous sculpture “El Beso”, by the Peruvian artist Victor Delfin. Then, we will appreciate the impressive Huaca Pucllana, the ceremonial center of the Lima culture. We will continue to the Plaza de Armas, where we will find the Government Palace and the Municipal Palace. We will visit the Cathedral and walk to the Convent of Santo Domingo, whose corridors were walked by San Martin de Porras and Santa Rosa de Lima in the seventeenth century and where their remains now lie. Overnight in Lima.

DAY 2

Transfer to the airport for our departure to Cusco. Upon arrival transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure for acclimatization. Overnight in Cusco.

DAY 3

The great adventure begins! After picking us up at our hotel, we will go through Ollantaytambo (2,792 mt. / 9,160 ft.) to do the last shopping and then head to Piscacucho (2,750 mt. / 9,022 ft.), at Km. 82 of the railway, to enter the Inca Trail network. We will begin a light hike that will serve to acclimatize us. We will appreciate the beautiful snow-capped Veronica and arrive at a natural viewpoint from where we will appreciate in the distance the archaeological site of Llaqtapata. We will continue to our first camp in Huayllabamba (3,000 mt. / 9,842 ft.).

DAY 4

The most intense day of the Inca Trail is coming up, let’s make sure to carry some extra sweets in our carry-on bag for extra energy. We will advance through the Huayllabamba Valley while observing the ecological change as we move from the highlands to Puna. In Yunca Chimpa we will prepare for the ascent to Llulluchapampa (3,750 mt. / 12,303 ft.). While enjoying a refreshing snack, we will appreciate the Huayanay Valley and our challenge of the day, the challenging Abra de Warmiwañusca (4,200 mt. / 13,799 ft.), also known as “De la Mujer Muerta”. If we are lucky, we will be able to delight ourselves with the beautiful hummingbirds and sparrows that inhabit the area. Finally, we will descend to our campsite in Pacaymayo (3,600 mt. / 11,811 ft.) to have lunch and rest after this day of challenges and spectacular views.

DAY 5

Today will be the longest day of our trek but at the same time the one that will impress us the most and with a lower degree of difficulty. We will ascend to the Runcuracay Pass (3,860 mt. / 12,664 ft.) where we will visit the archaeological complex of the same name and continue to the Inca citadel of Sayacmarca (3,580 mt. / 11,745 ft.) After lunch, we will cross the Phuyupatamarca Pass (3,700 mt. / 12,139 ft.) In the area, we will appreciate the best-preserved Inca complex of the entire Inca Trail, whose meaning in Spanish is “above the clouds”. After a refreshing rest, we will continue to Wiñaywayna (2,650 mt. / 8,694 ft.), an Inca complex that will leave us speechless with its numerous agricultural terraces and its religious and urban sectors. Here we will finish this day, camp, and have our farewell dinner.

DAY 6

We are one step away from our main objective. We will get up in the early morning to ascend a narrow path of stairs to Intipunku or Sun Gate (2,720 mt. / 8,923 ft.) and have a view of Machu Picchu (2,450 mt. / 8,038 ft.) that will take our breath away, we can appreciate the sunrise and portray this Inca refuge in the distance. We will descend for a guided tour of the citadel, where we will have a detailed explanation of the different areas of this Wonder of the World. Afterwards, we will have lunch in one of the restaurants. We will stay in one of the hotels in Aguas Calientes or Machu Picchu, which will allow us more time on this site.

DAY 7

Free morning. Entrance tickets to Machu Picchu are limited, we recommend requesting tickets for later days at the time of booking the program to avoid congestion or lack of availability locally. In an additional visit to Machu Picchu, we can visit sectors such as Intipunku or Sun Gate, the entrance to the citadel of the Inca Trail. For those who want a more intense adventure visiting the Huayna Picchu, you should consider that there are only 400 daily slots for ascents, which must be previously reserved. At the coordinated time, we will return by train and be transferred to the hotel. Overnight in Cusco.
