DAY 1
Reception at Tuxtla Gutierrez airport and transfer approximately 30 min. (26 km) to the Grijalva River pier to navigate and observe the geological wonder that gives its name to the Sumidero Canyon, where we will also observe a diversity of flora and fauna. At the end of the tour, we will travel a distance of 1 hr. (53 km) to reach the Colonial City of San Cristobal de las Casas, declared a World Heritage Site. Upon arrival, check-in at the chosen hotel and rest of the day at leisure. Lodging. Optionally you can delight your palate with a typical dinner in a restaurant called Las Pichanchas, which is characterized by serving typical food, coupled with a show of folkloric dances, all enlivened with marimba music which is the emblematic and famous instrument of the town, the very nice place with all the colorful Chiapaneco, plus the friendliness of its staff will make this night unforgettable, after having lived this great experience we will return to our hotel to rest and recharge energies for the next day.
DAY 2
Breakfast. In the morning, at 8:00 hrs. departure from San Cristobal de las Casas, towards the Montebello Lakes, our first visit will be to the indigenous potter community of Amatenango del Valle; later, we will go to the Chiflon waterfall, with a distance of 2 hrs 30 min (128 km), a natural waterfall that is surrounded by lush vegetation formed by reed and palm groves, we will finish with a visit to the most beautiful lake area of Mexico: Montebello Lakes, we will walk a distance of 1 hr 30 min (89 km). The Natural Reserve that bears this name, is composed of several hectares of pine trees, oaks and jungle, and where we can view several lakes, and admire, weather permitting, the different shades of the waters that make up this beautiful place. Return to San Cristobal de las Casas in a 3 hour transfer (147 km). (147 km). Overnight stay. Or you can carry out the following optional activity on this day: SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS – COLETA GASTRONOMIC ACTIVITY Breakfast. Early in the morning we will go to the Municipal Public Market of the town, historic and beautiful place that still maintains its essence as in the past where hundreds of indigenous people of different ethnicities gathered with their multicolored regional costumes that came to this place to sell the different products that they themselves cultivated or produced, for example, they brought their items to sell, then bought to take home what they needed. Nowadays all this is still done in the same way, the same smells, aromas, the classic bargaining between buyer and seller, all this together will take us to live this unique experience, as we will buy the fresh ingredients with which we will cook this day, all this from the hand of our local cook, who will let us buy ourselves what we need, once we have our purchases ready, we will move on walking to the next day.
DAY 3
Breakfast. We will leave at 09:00 hrs. to the Indigenous Communities of the Tzotzil ethnic group; visiting first about 30 min (11 km) away, Chamula, to learn, and thus understand the fusion of contemporary traditions and Mayan ancestral characteristics that identifies this place. Later, in 15 min (8 km) we will arrive to Zinacantán, where we will visit the church and the house of a family cooperative, where we will be welcomed with a regional drink and observe how the women work the backstrap loom from pre-Columbian times. After viewing the samples of what they produce, we will be offered a visit to their kitchen, where if we are lucky, we will be invited to taste handmade tortillas. Afterwards, we will drive 25 minutes (11 km) to San Cristóbal de las Casas for a visit of this beautiful city. Rest of the day at leisure. Lodging. DAY 4
At 04:00 hrs departure to Palenque (213 km). Breakfast en route. At the end we will visit the archaeological site of Palenque about 30 min (22 km). This Mayan city stands out for its architectural and sculptural heritage, and where we can admire several constructions: The Palace, The Temple of the Foliated Cross, The Temple of the Sun and others. Transfer to the hotel and lodging.
DAY 5
Very early, at 05:30 hrs. we will leave for Frontera Corozal. Breakfast en route. A 3 hrs. drive (170 km) to arrive and embark to Bonampak. (170 km) to arrive and embark for approximately 1 hr. down river to visit the mystical archaeological site of Yaxchilan, a place recognized for the quality of sculptures found in it. On the way back, we will continue on a 1 hr. 15 min. drive (44 km) for the visit of Bonampak. Its name means “Painted Walls”, and therein lies the fame of this site, since on the walls of the enclosures are the best preserved paintings of the Mayan World. Afterwards, we will return on a 3 hour drive (146 km) to Palenque. (146 km) to Palenque. Overnight stay.
DAY 6
Breakfast. Departure at 8:00 hrs. to the city of Villahermosa, Tab. which is approximately 2 hrs. away (152 km). We will visit the Park-Museum La Venta, divided into 2 areas the zoological, which exhibits animals belonging to this tropical region in which highlights the beautiful icon Jaguar and archaeological, highlights the monumental Olmec heads, as well as human figures of animals and fantastic beings represented on altars and stelae, Later, we will make the transfer about 15 min (14 km) to the airport to take the flight back to the city.
